What is Squish-to-Condish?
Squish-to-Condish is a method where you apply your conditioner (or leave-in) to soaking-wet hair and then "squish" it into your curls. The idea is to allow your hair to soak up as much product and moisture as possible while keeping your curls hydrated and defined.
How to Do It:
-
Wet Hair Thoroughly: Start by getting your hair soaking wet—this is key. The more water, the better.
-
Apply Your Conditioner: Use a generous amount of your favourite conditioner or curl cream. Work it through your hair to ensure even distribution.
-
Squish and Squeeze: With your head tilted forward (or to the side, if you prefer), squish your hair upwards, from the ends to the roots, using your palms. Think of it like cupping your hair and gently pressing it towards your scalp.
-
Repeat: Keep "squishing" until your hair feels fully saturated and the product is absorbed. You should feel your curls beginning to form as you press the moisture into the strands.
-
Optional: Scrunch: After the squishing, you can follow up with a gentle scrunch using your hands or a microfiber towel to enhance curl definition and remove any excess water.
Why It Works:
-
Maximises Moisture: By applying conditioner to soaking-wet hair and pressing it in, you're encouraging your hair to absorb as much moisture as possible. This is especially helpful for curly and wavy hair types that need hydration.
-
Boosts Curl Definition: The squishing motion helps to create and define curl clumps, giving you bouncier, more defined curls.
-
Reduces Frizz: When you squish the conditioner into your curls, you're helping the product to stay in place, which keeps hair hydrated and reduces frizz.
